Akadama from the Japanese "red ball soil" is a clay of Japanese volcanic origin totally free of bacteria and parasites, characterized by a neutral pH and due to the volcanic nature, is rich in minerals. The grains undergo several heating processes that make them harder and stronger over time, preventing them from flaking. It is undoubtedly the most popular natural inert in the cultivation of bonsai.
WAYS OF USE:
You can grow Bonsai trees in a potting soil composed of Akadama alone, because it gives optimal drainage, more oxygenation to the substrate and not retaining much water allows greater root development preventing the formation of fungi that cause root rot. It can also be mixed with other potting soils to create optimal growing substrates for plants.
